About Hive Endurance

We got into triathlon as adults, so we know what it’s like to start something totally new while managing work, family, a social life and everything else life throws at you. That’s why we love helping people get into the sport whether you’re not sure where to even begin or you’re already racing and want to take things up a notch.

Our coaches are here to support you with training that’s tailored to your goals and your lifestyle. We believe you can chase big goals, stay on top of everything else in life, and actually enjoy the process.

Our approach is all about smart training, proper recovery, good nutrition, and looking after both your body and your mind.

We’re here to help you on your triathlon journey and provide real-world advice and support. ChatGPT could write you a generic training plan but it can’t guide you on:

  • What equipment you need and how you can get it without breaking the bank

  • Crafting smart, efficient and specific workouts tailored to your ability, needs and goals

  • Guidance on nutrition, recovery and keeping injury free

  • Finding the right races for you

  • Race day planning to nail the course and conditions so you have fun!

We’re based in New Zealand but coach athletes all over the world. Programs are delivered digitally and all communication is online, distance is no barrier. We welcome athletes locally and from overseas.

Alex Bees

Alex completed his first triathlon in 2012 at the sprint distance and has since raced around the world in numerous Ironman, 70.3, standard, and sprint triathlons. He brings a strong understanding of what it takes to succeed in triathlon while balancing the demands of a full professional and personal life.

Having trained for Ironman while managing a busy career, Alex knows firsthand how to race without burning out. His coaching is built around the belief that triathlon should enhance your life not consume it. He’s passionate about helping athletes create structure and habits that support both their training and their everyday wellbeing.

Alex is especially committed to supporting beginners. His coaching style is approachable, clear, and free of judgment. Whether you're aiming to finish your first sprint triathlon or building towards long-course racing, Alex creates a positive environment where athletes feel encouraged, informed, and supported every step of the way.

He works with busy professionals to train smarter, not just harder. His holistic coaching approach integrates purposeful sessions, balanced recovery, and a strong mental strategy to help athletes stay motivated, avoid injury, and perform at their best not just on race day, but in all areas of life.

Kathleen Munson

Kathleen is an experienced marathon runner who discovered triathlon later in life and she hasn’t looked back since. She knows what it’s like to learn to swim as an adult, navigate the challenge of clipping into pedals on a TT bike for the first time, and balance the steep learning curve of a new sport with the realities of a busy life.

Since making the leap, Kathleen has completed multiple Ironman and 70.3 races, and now channels that experience into helping others, especially beginners, build confidence and find joy in triathlon. Her coaching is warm, supportive, and practical, with a focus on building foundational skills and sustainable routines that set athletes up for long-term success.

Kathleen is passionate about creating an empowering environment for female athletes. She integrates women’s health considerations into her coaching to ensure training is aligned with the unique challenges women face in endurance sport.

Having balanced triathlon training with a demanding career, Kathleen understands the pressure many athletes feel to do it all. She believes triathlon can be a powerful tool for personal growth, stress relief, and high performance in all areas of life. Her goal is to help busy people discover what’s possible when training fits into life, not around it.
