Frequently Asked Questions

  • What level of fitness do you cater for?

We coach everyone from complete beginners with no prior sports background to experienced triathletes.

  • What’s the difference between a coaching plan and a pre-written training plan?

Coaching plans are tailored to your goals, fitness level, schedule, and progress, with ongoing feedback and adjustments. Pre-written plans are one-size-fits-all and don’t include support or customization.

Does it matter that my coach isn’t local?

Not all. We coach athletes all over the world with plans delivered online (see more on that below) and communication by messenger, phone or video call. In today’s connected world, it’s common for athletes and coaches to be located away from each other.

    How do I get started?

Start by filling out our athlete interest form. From there, we’ll schedule a call or message exchange to discuss your goals and training background.

  • How do I view the workouts?

These will be loaded into your Training Peaks account under each day so you can see in advance for the week ahead your training.

How do I record my workouts?

You’ll need a GPS watch that is capable of logging swimming, cycling and running. When setting up your Training Peaks account you’ll need to sync your watch with the app.

Can I get the workouts on my GPS watch?

Yes! The workouts will sync to your watch and you can follow each step on the screen.

How will my coach give me feedback on the workouts?

This can be agreed between you and your coach. Often your coach will comment on your Training Peaks activity or can send you messages with feedback.

How do I leave notes for my coach?

This can be determined between you and your coach. You may want to want notes in your Training Peaks or simply message them.

Do I need to follow the plan exactly?

Life happens! Plans are flexible, and we’ll work with you to adjust training based on work, family, or illness. If you’re pressed for time we’ll advise key workouts not to miss and work these into your schedule.

  • Do I need a power meter, heart rate monitor, or GPS watch?

These tools can enhance your training, but they aren’t essential. We do recommend a GPS watch with heart rate monitor for the Coaching Essentials package. Although not required but is recommended, a power meter on the bike will help you get the most out of the Coaching Plus package.

What gear do I need to start triathlon training?

Basic swim gear, a bike (any kind to start), a helmet, running shoes, and a positive attitude. We’ll guide you as you grow into the sport. Check out our guide here. Don’t buy everything before you start, a coach is here to advise on what you need and provide tips on the right gear at the right price.

  • How much does coaching cost?

The Coaching Essentials package is $225NZ per month whilst the Coaching Plus is $350 per month. We believe having a coach is an extremely worthwhile investment in your triathlon journey to ensure you’re guided every step of the way.

    How do I pay?

You’ll be invoiced by email for the upcoming month. Monthly cycles are from the date you commence coaching, not per calendar month. You can pay by bank transfer or PayPal.

What if I need to cancel?

You’ll need to give your coach one month notice.

    Is there a minimum commitment?

We recommend committing to at least three months to see meaningful progress, but you can cancel anytime with notice.

Do you offer one-off consultations or race plans?

Coached athletes will have this included as part of their package.

We offer single-session consults, race planning calls, and custom event prep plans. Reach out for details.

  • How often will I meet with my coach?

We offer unlimited email or app-based communication, plus regular check-ins based on your coaching package which can be adjusted as you progress. Your preferred way of communicating with your coach can be agreed and adjusted when you start, it’s all up to you.

  • Will my coach help me prepare for race day?

Absolutely. We’ll cover race strategy, nutrition, pacing, transition tips, and mental prep to help you perform your best.

Can you help me choose the right race?

Yes. We can recommend events that suit your goals, timeline, and current fitness level. We also offer advice for races overseas or away from home.

  • Do you offer group training or in-person sessions?

Most of our coaching is online, but we occasionally host camps, meet-ups, or local training sessions.

I have a busy job and family. Can I still train for a triathlon?

Yes! We specialize in helping busy professionals fit triathlon into their lives with realistic, time-efficient training plans.

I’m nervous about swimming. Can you help?

You’re not alone! We provide swim-specific training, tips for open water confidence, and beginner-friendly resources. We can also recommend swim coaches in your area for additional help.
